Barn Renovation Project
This project involved the full renovation of an old, abandoned barn located in the customer’s garden. The structure was in poor condition, so the work began by carefully stripping the roof and salvaging as many original materials as possible for reuse.
The existing gable end was taken down and new foundations were prepared by digging a footing, drilling in rebar, and concreting to ensure the structure was properly secured. The gable end was then completely rebuilt, replacing the original 9-inch solid brick wall with a new insulated cavity wall.
Inside the building, a damp proof membrane (DPM) was installed throughout before concreting the floors. The entire roof structure was rebuilt, followed by boarding and plastering of all internal rooms. New windows and doors were fitted, while the previous windows at the rear of the building were blocked up using bricks reclaimed from the original gable end.
The roof was finished with new slate while reusing the original ridge tiles to maintain some of the building’s character. Finally, the internal floors were screeded and a small patio area was constructed outside to complete the project.
The result is a fully restored and functional building that retains elements of the original structure while benefiting from modern construction standards.
